The standard is not optional.

ISO 26262 governs every safety-relevant electrical and electronic system in a modern vehicle, and compliance evidence is asked for at type approval. Yet most engineers meet it sideways – a HARA template someone else built, a coverage target nobody explained, a safety manual they were told to skim. The result is engineers who can name the parts of the standard but cannot defend an ASIL determination in a review. This cohort closes that gap: you carry one item from item definition to safety case, and you do the work rather than watch it.

What you’ll walk away able to do

  • Run a HARA and determine ASIL with reasoning that survives review
  • Write safety goals, functional safety requirements and technical safety requirements
  • Apply ASIL decomposition and freedom from interference correctly – and spot when others have not
  • Read a semiconductor Safety Manual and interpret SPFM, LFM and PMHF
  • Assemble a safety case and trace a safety goal end to end
  • Tell functional safety, SOTIF and cybersecurity apart – three different failure questions
